Why AI item sheets are hard to use
Image models are good at drawing a whole set of items in one go, and the set comes out in a matching style. But a game needs each item as its own file with a transparent background, and cutting twelve items out by hand in an image editor takes a long time. The background is often not even transparent, just white or a painted grey checkerboard.
How it works
The tool first removes a flat or checkerboard background the same way as the AI PNG Fixer. Then it looks for groups of visible pixels. Parts that are only a few pixels apart, like a sparkle next to a gem or a blade and its hilt, are joined into one item with the Join gaps setting. Tiny specks are ignored. Every item is cut out with only its own pixels, so a neighbour's corner never sneaks in, then trimmed or fitted into a cell of the same size. Items are numbered in reading order, row by row from left to right.
Using the result
Choose a cell size such as 128 for an inventory grid, so every icon is the same size. Choose Standing on the bottom for characters and furniture so they all touch the floor at the same line. The edge pixels get the colour of the item, which keeps outlines clean when the engine scales the sprite.
