Pick a sound type and get six retro game sounds to choose from, or start from a ready-made one. Shape it with simple controls and download a WAV you can use in any game, free or commercial.

Each click makes six new takes of that type on the right. Listen and pick one.

These are fixed. The same button always gives the same sound.

Retro game sounds in one click

Pick a sound type and you get six fresh takes of it side by side: coins, lasers, explosions, hits, jumps, power ups, menu blips, UI clicks, magic, footsteps and more. Play them, pick the one you like, or roll six more. If you want the same result every time, start from one of the ready-made sounds instead. They are hand tuned and never change. Then shape the sound with four simple controls: pitch, length, tone and attack. Reset takes you back to where you started. Every sound you pick goes into the history, so you can always go back.

Why the takes are random

A retro sound has more than twenty settings, and finding a good mix by hand is slow. Each sound type rolls those settings inside a range that suits it, so every take sounds like a coin or a laser but none is exactly the same. That makes it quick to find a sound that fits your game, and your game does not end up with the same coin sound as everyone else's.

Advanced settings

Open Advanced settings for every control of the synth. Envelope. Attack fades the sound in, sustain holds it, punch gives it a sharp start and decay fades it out. Pitch. Start pitch, slide up or down, a curve on the slide and a minimum pitch where the sound cuts off. Vibrato wobbles the pitch. Arpeggio jumps the pitch once partway through, the classic coin sound. Duty changes the tone of the square wave from hollow to thin. Repeat restarts the sound quickly for power ups and alarms. Filters cut highs or lows, and the phaser adds a swirl.

Using the sounds in your game

The download is a standard 16 bit mono WAV that every engine imports: Unity, Godot, GameMaker, Unreal, Phaser and the rest. Lower sample rates sound crunchier and more retro and make smaller files. Copy link saves the exact settings into a URL, so you can send a sound to a teammate or keep it in your notes and make it again later.

Can I use these sounds commercially?

Yes. The sounds are synthesized from numbers on your device. There are no samples or recordings inside, nobody else owns them, and you do not need to credit GameShipKit.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Everything is generated and played in your browser.
